It doesn’t matter if they’re your mother’s pearls or a favorite bracelet, your jewelry collection is often a tangled mess. Instead of constantly detangling chains and searching for that elusive earring partner, get organized. These low- or no-cost ideas will take little time and effort.

Organized jewelry box

You probably already have an inexpensive weekly or monthly pillbox. They’re perfect for separating and keeping small pieces of jewelry – especially earrings – organized. These can also be purchased inexpensively at a local craft or drug store. Another idea is to use small, clear fishing tackle boxes or ice cube trays.

Necklace holders

A necklace rack, or a mug rack (which is often decorative and can be hung on a wall to display necklaces) are great ways to organize necklaces. A tie rack or small coat hooks will also work well.

Children’s jewelry

Don’t want to keep your children’s plastic jewelry with your sparkling gems? Use one of their stuffed animals to store jewelry.

• Drape necklaces around the neck of a teddy bear, doll, or other stuffed friend.
• If your child has pierced ears put the earrings through the stuffed animal’s ears. This also works with clip-on earrings.
• Rings can be tied to ribbons around the stuffed animal’s neck.  Make sure to tie the knot tightly so the rings don’t fall off.
• Display the teddy bear on a dresser that younger children can’t reach.
• Fun idea: A teddy bear wearing bracelets, necklaces, and earrings is perfect to play with when your youngster gets dressed up for a tea party!
