Has anyone noticed the Colts only have trouble against 3-4 defenses?
San Diego today obviously, New England over the last couple years, Pittsburgh gives them fits. I know those are all good teams, but they don’t seem to have any trouble against good 4-3 teams like Jacksonville/Tampa this year, and the last couple years against Kansas City/Denver/Baltimore. They ran the ball all over the Bears last year too.
Not only that, but more specifically, the same right outside linebacker on every 3-4 team creates havoc in the Colts back field the same way (Merriman, Joey Porter, Willie McGinest a while back for the Pats, even DeMarcus Ware for Dallas during a regular season game a couple years ago had like 3 sacks). They’ve played good teams with good linebackers before, ie Urlacher for the Bears in the Super Bowl, and don’t ever seem to have a problem. 3-4 defense makes the Colts look like a JV team every time.
(as a Colts fan, I completely admit they did not deserve to win today, hats off to the Chargers, good luck against New England next week)
Why do you think the Pats can usually make 1-3 big plays against the colts?
If you are strong a the DL and dont need the extra help to rush the QB it makes it so much easier to defend the pass.
